WARNING: Sedan Facelift hood on Pre-facelift does not fit properly.

Prior to attempting this I did a great deal of searching and gathered that the facelift sedan hood would fit on my prefacelift sedan. The body shop got the hood and test fitted before painting. They called me and wanted me to look at it. It did not match up with the corners of the fenders. It was about a quarter inch shorter than the fender. Also, I could fit an entire finger between the hood and the headlight because it is longer than the prefacelift hood.

Quickread: Facelift hood on prefacelift will 'fit' but it will not look right and has fitment issues.

I just thought I would let everyone know because I was led to believe that it was a direct retrofit with no fitment issues whatsoever when in fact it does not.

Did you replace the fenders as well? I imagine you have to replace the headlights as well. Talk to Sna77. Hes done the retrofit.

Why would you want to do this (replacing hood only)?

Then how does the VRS sedan hood fit both facelift and prefacelift?

I've been wanting to do a facelift hood swap, but good thing I read this first... I've actually seen facelift hoods on prefacelifts before though..

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of false information on these forums where people are saying it's an easy swap.
I was interested in making the same switch, but now I guess not!

PS: Is it possible you received a coupe hood or something?

What about the other way around? Would a pre-facelift hood fit a facelifted sedan?

facelift does fit prefacelifted but you need a good bit of modding to make it look right. Check out mike@modbargains's car. He made it look pretty darn accurate

My body shop adjusted the headlights all the way forward and adjusted the hood as far forward as possible w/o serious modification and it still didn't look right. So if you had enough time/money to spend I'm sure you could get it to look ok, i just didn't want to. It looked ok but, I couldnt stand the space between the headlight and the hood.

I'm letting people know that it is not a direct fit like I was told. I was assuming that it would have no issues at all based on info that I found on this site and I'm simply making sure no one makes the same mistake.

I've been planning on doing this for quite some time...good thing I read this...

But similarly, I've seen a bunch of people on this forum who've done this exact mod and have not heard of any complaints? Hopefully they'll find this thread and shed some light.

Here's an example:

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...acelifted+hood

looks alright to me...

theres no way to get a coupe hood on a sedan right?

coupe hoods are about 1000000x easier to come across than a fricking sedan hood =(
