Who drives an e46 and actually pays for it?

After reading the increasingly sickening threads about children getting free e46s, my jealousy and curiosity has compelled me to start this poll. I am a young (22) guy who bought ALL his own cars by working in the real world (even during the last two years of high school for a 1993 e36. I am wondering who (under 25 only) is 100% financially responsible for their car.

Most of us have better things to worry about.

25, all me and im no baller

I bought my current car when I was 27 and it's paid off now. But, when I was 24 I did indeed pay for my own new BMW. It was a 1999 323is (e36) that I leased for about $500/mo.

Just purchased an 01 325i. I am 20 and have payed for all of my vehicles myself. I wouldnt have it any other way.

I bought my first one at 18, 2004 325i brand new.. I financed it, and I just sold it and bought a 330i ZHP, also financed. but I pay my self.. my parents don't help..

I hate all these little kids getting free bmws, I worked my ass off since 14 to get where I am..
They don't appreciate the value in their cars..

Car is paid off, all by myself including maintenance and insurance. Even though its a '00 328i there's a good feeling of acomplishment when you buy your own things. The one thing my dad does help me is sometimes when I change my oil

21, live on my own, pay for everything on my own, my parents arent rich and i would never ask them to pay for anything.

20, been saving since middle school when I wanted to buy my mom's e30...my dad always did a good job of convincing me to wait to buy a car...then I found a smokin deal on my car. The free college thing doesn't hurt, either.

02 330ci, bought by me alone, Im 22. Not a baller, but people seem to think so in the BM

So you're one of the spoilt kids that never has to pay for anything, I gather ? :p

Anyway : I'm 23, moderate income and pay for all of it myself through hard work (Media Analyst in a business-to-press relations agency) and saving :

- the BMW
- the Honda (off the road ATM)
- the soon-to-be-sold Alfa Romeo
- the Ducati
- mods, insurance, road taxes ($2700 this year ), maintenance, gas (over $300/mo on gas alone)... on all
- University (yeah, I'm a student Communications Sciences as well... want to get a raise from my boss when I get my degree as he'll pretty much have to on legal grounds and I'm bound to the firm by contract anyway )
- my hifi and music addiction
- the rent (got a great deal on my appartment, only $350/mo)
- charity (WWF, Gaia, Amnesty International) and my personal pension funds / life insurance plan ($75/mo)

I'll be ballin' when I hit 65 since I'll be entitled to a social security pension as well !

The ONLY thing I get for free sometimes is food, or a haircut. It drives my mother insane when she comes around and sees that I neglect those things (mainly because of my lack of time, I work HARD).

I don't pay for anything

I do work for my parents but I recieve no paycheck. So either A, I recieve a paycheck, or b, they cover my bills. I think b was a better choice....

I've said this before: I don't see anything wrong with parents buying their children nice things (including cars) as long as the child has earned it by being responsible and they respect/ appreciate what was given to them.

I don't agree with parents buying their children cars just because their child thinks it's their right to own one.

I also don't see it necessary to brag about what you own online.

Parents donating a car, fine ! But a $40k car for a 16-year-old child ? Where's the logic in that ? As a 'self-made man' (by lack of a different term to describe my career) coming from a cop as a father and a social worker for a mother, I firmly believe in an education through humility. How is a kid ever to grow into a respectful adult towards those who have a tougher life with less means, if it never experienced what value some things truly have ?
Sense of reality, that's what a $2k beater as a first car is all about. The dangers of a good kid with a $40k birthday present car turning into an ignorant bastid later on are just too real. I've seen it happen too often.
The opposite can happen too, a friend of mine comes from a rich family but he's an alternative kinda guy, never got anything and he doesn't like spending money (as it 'feeds the global consumerism scheme'). He makes more than I do, but walks around in what can best be described as rags and on $10 discount shoes. He can walk into a dealership and buy a brand new car, cash money. Instead he has a bus pass. You know what he said to me when I first arrived in the Bimmer ?

"You won the lottery or something ? Started dealing drugs now have we ? Don't you think it's a bit overkill ? You motherloving pimp ass B !"



I nearly stabbed him at that point.


PS : the internet is anonymous enough to make bragging a pretty pointless affair. It can however illustrate a point to explain a good part the situation.
