HPF Stage 1 Build Thread
Hello all!
Ive been on this forum for quite some time but never posted as I was a lurker. Ive been looking at HPF kits for a long time and decided to pull the plug and go for it. So I decided to go with stage 1 since I figured that I wouldn't need 800 or even 900 whp. I also figured that I could always upgrade to meth down the road. I talked to Branden numerous times about everything and was more then helpful and very knowledgeable on many things. I got the kit about 3 weeks ago or so and have already finished the install. I ran into a couple of minor things that Branden was able to iron out for me. The only thing that I had to modify on the kit was the bracket that hold the manifold to the motor mount. The holes were off about a half a hole. I also bought the stage 2 clutch so it added a few extra days to the install. In total it took me about 5 days to this. Since this wasn't my first time to a turbo or supercharger build it made this go really smooth. This is the only aftermarket kit of any kind that I have ever dealt with that was this well labeled with detailed instructions. So here it goes..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dual Mass Flywheel ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The bracket that I had to modify the holes on ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finished As you can see I was able to modify the stock grill to fit in front of the intercooler. You have to trim the bumper quite a bit for the intercooler fit so you dont have the stock tabs for the grill to fit back on. ![]() ![]() Of course you have to put on the badges too (my license plate is definitely fitting now) ![]() I have many more pics but I figured this was enough. The first time I took this out and stepped on it I had a huge smile and thought this thing should be like this from the factory. It drives like stock until you hit the gas then its a whole new ball game. After a few days of driving it I got some 110 leaded and flipped that switch. It is just amazing in race mode. I was a little worried about traction but surprisingly enough traction is not really a problem. In low mode it gets excellent traction. In race mode it spins pretty good in second but still pulls really hard. I have stock suspension on the car and it squats really nice when you get on it and it digs in nice. I was considering doing some suspension work but since it gets really good traction I don't want to change what works. Last edited by 51815; 09-12-2011 at 12:19 AM. |

very nice to see a fanatic self installing a hpf kit. what was the hardest/most frustrating part for you? just curious. im not positive but shouldent you stick it on a dyno to make sure your not running lean or rich and possibly going to hurt your engine? and i also want to see what she puts down
nice man and enjoy it

Thanks guys! The only thing that was frustrating was when the car wouldnt start the first time. I checked and rechecked everything like 10 times. I finally sent the ecu back to HPF and it had the wrong tune on it. It was a tune for a stage 3 car and those have different injectors that use an injector driver. Once I got it back it fired right up. The kit comes with a wideband so you can monitor the A/F ratios at all times. Wide open the car runs 11.7 and cruising its around 14.2 which is perfect.

Link to My S2k build thread http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/8123...i-turbo-build/
The car has had a few more things installed since this dyno chart. I will be running a race mode oh this aswell. It will be ran at 20psi and 30-35 psi. It should be somewhere in the 600-650 whp range. This dyno was done on 17psi with the injectors at about 98% duty cycle. I upgraded to 1000cc injectors, Competition Clutch dual ceramic clutch, and Dual 340lph in tank fuel pumps. |

Impressive DIY turbo install! More props for doing the clutch on jack stands.
Request...I would like to see more pics of the garage. Looks pretty squared away from the pics. |
