Hi I am looking to buy a 2001 325i manual with 78k miles. The car looks immaculate inside and out from pictures....I am going to go check it out in a few days. It also has an extended warranty until 2012, or 100k miles. Do you think that 9,700 is a good price? Thanks :)

Non sport models handle like absolute pigs. Like, they're really bad. I would put the sports package 100% above the harmon kardon package (which is absolute crap), mileage, and probably even over leather. The normal seats are extremely uncomfortable and unsupportive.

BMW's always come in two different breeds. The non-sport 540i is a boat with a V8, the sport 540i is a competitor for the M5. The non sport E46 is still better than most cars handling wise, but compared to a sport model there's no comparison.

I don't have the sports package but I swapped out my springs with sport springs and a made a huge difference and it lowered my car about an inch...If I did it all over again I'd get the sports package

If it was anything but a 323 (which has the ZF transmission with the crappy reverse gear drum that breaks) i'd probably say yes it would be better..

These can't be the only two E46's in your price range though. The worst thing you can do is rush to buy a car. I did that with my 328 and although its a good daily driver for me, the fact that it was a non-sport auto annoyed me so badly that I went out and spent 30 grand on a manual M-sport two months later.

Im actually surprised at some of the numbers you guys are throwing out for the price of cars. I have been looking at all types of cars for the last week and because of the cash for clunkers program and the shape of the economy right now the choices of decent used cars with low miles is slim pickings. Not just for BMW's but for Trail blazers, equinox, and Vw's. If you look on auto trader and are trying to buy a car or truck for 8k i think you will be shocked at whats out there and how many miles are on the vehicles. Lol Im actually thinking of just going and getting a Subaru or something of that nature!!!

Ok so when i take this for a dealer inspection ask them to make sure....
1.Sub-frame is good and doesn't need repairs
2. Check to make sure the cooling system has been replaced or is up to date
3. Make sure the water pump is new or has been replaced (or is that what we are talking about in #2)
4. Make sure the control arms and bushings are kosher

Any other majors that im missing or ones that people suggest
